Fernie Pets Society
The Fernie Pets Society is a volunteer run charity dedicated to animal welfare and creating a pet-friendly and safe environment. Established in 2008, the Society provides assistance with with lost & found pets, offers a subsidized spay and neuter program for cats, veterinary care for injured animals and is building a fenced off-leash dog park and accessible trail system.
Fernie Railyard Dog Park
The Pets Society is building a fully fenced off-leash dog park on vacant land centrally located within the City of Fernie. The park is free to use and is open all year-round. A defining feature of the park is the paved trail network that runs throughout the 10 acre land parcel.

Our organization uses Trafx trail counters to monitor the number of visitors to the park. You can read our 2020 Visitor Report.
Spay & Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP)
The Elk Valley Spay & Neuter Incentive Program (SNiP) offers subsidized surgical procedures to qualified low-income cat owners. SNiP also provides free spay or neutering for feral cats and homeless cats that are being fostered while awaiting adoption. The intent is to encourage people caring for cats to have them spayed or neutered in order to control the unwanted cat population.
